University is one of the most exciting, painful, expensive, joyous, and challenging times in people’s lives. It is the time when students step out as adults, develop their worldviews, make lifelong friendships, and learn so much about themselves and their purpose in life. It is a ‘sliding doors moment’ where many walk away from the faith of their parents, whilst others discover afresh the hope and life offered by Jesus Christ.

In a nation where 1 in 4 world leaders study and a continent where over 30 million students attend university annually, the exciting and steady signs of faith being rekindled over the past few years have the potential to ignite a fire of true adventure, freedom and purpose in the hearts and minds of young people. 

I believe that now is the time for the church to be active, alert and awake to the students moving in and out of our towns and cities every year. Now is the time to enlarge our tents and seek to love, welcome and disciple the spiritually hungry student generation.

University was a time when my faith was deepened and sharpened, amidst multiple challenges and unforeseen events, and I am excited to play my part in continuing to serve students by giving myself to build up, strengthen and cheer on the local church.
